Notes on the Land of the Pharaohs.

The Nile and "two lands".

  • Upper Egypt wa a 500 mile long strip of the fertile land along the Nile: Lower Egypt was the wide Land of the Nie delta, emptying into the Mediterranean Sea.
  • The Nile was the major provider of life for the Egyptians.
Government by a God-King
  • Pharaoh was all powerful, worshipped asa God and intimately connected to other major Egyptian gods and goddesses
Today in class we took a test on Ancient Egypt. I thought it was easy to moderate. Most of the questions on the test were on the prezi or in our notes. I hope I did well on this test..

Today Mr. Schick was absent and had assigned us to watch 3 videos and take notes. My notes are in the blog below.
Notes on the Videos.

Video #1- The first video talked about the Pyramids. These Pyramids had had many chambers going through them. They used to have large plaques on the outside of them but they are not present anymore.

Video #2- This video takes about a mummy of a man names Heraclitus. They were  Developed to preserve body for the afterlife. First they take all organs out except the heart. Then they cover the body in salt for about 40 days to eliminate all moisture. Nextperfumed oils and plant resins are put on the body. Think layers of resin are used to apply the linen. Then more wrappings were applied.  Mysterious pouch perhaps of religious reasons placed on chest. A  mummified Ibis bird was placed on the chest also and then covered in more wrapping. Then a linen strips were placed and a portrait of the humans face. Then they covered him with a large linen cloth- painted in red with other symbols painted on it.

Video #3- This video talked about the pyramids and also some of the Egyptian Pharaohs. The most well known pyramids were built between 2575- 2465 BC. Rah and Amen made Amen Rah- conquered all of Egypt. 1550 BCE- Egyptian Pharaoh Ahmosis – Called New Kingdom now. King tut died around 1322 BCE which was way after the pyramids were built. This was my favorite video because i learned the most out of all the videos.

Today in class we got assigned new seats. We also learned about Ancient Egypt and learned about pyramids and Sphinx. Some of the pyramids were built 4,500 years ago. We also talked about the geography of Ancient Egypt and the Nile River. They used the Nile for drinking water, irrigating, bathing, and transportation. Ancient Egyptians were the first people to invent the sail boat. Every July, the river floods and every October it leaves behind rich soil. We also talked about the ranking of the Egyptians. First was the Pharaoh. After that came government officials, which included the nobles and priests. Then came the soldiers, scribes, merchants, artisans, farmers, and then slaves and servants.

Today in class we took a test. The test was on the movie called Guns, Germs, and Steel. This movie showed the life of people a long long time ago and also the life of New Guineans today and how they have not civilized with the rest of the world. We also got back our quiz that we took last week. I did pretty god on it.

Class started off today with a practice lockdown drill. The whole class had to cram into the safest corner of the room while Mr. Schick closed the blind and locked the door. The whole procedure lasted about 10 minutes. After this, we continued watching the " Guns, Germs, and Steel" video. It showed many techniques used back in the olden days.

Today we continued watching the Guns, Germs, and Steel film in class. This section of the film compared other countries around the world to the middle east. We learned that there are only 14 domestic animal species out of the massive number of species in the world. We also learned that farmers would grow whatever crop would grow best in that specific climate.

Today we watched a movie called "Guns, Germs, and Steel". This movie was about the people in Papua New Guinea. These people have not advanced with other civilizations and still do hunting and gathering. It is very unique to see that on country can remain the same for thousands of years when the rest of the world is changing dramatically.
